'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith resumes contest with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he recalls the thrilling closing stages of Swansea's stunning fightback win against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. That match wrapped up with Galbraith briefly donning a spectator's eyewear amid the pitch-side pile-on.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a powerful effort from distance, and Cameron Burgess promptly hammered in the rebound before charging toward the East Stand to mark the goal, with supporters swarming the players.

Remarkable Recovery

This completed an unbelievable turnaround given Swansea had been behind 2-0 during the latter period. Amid the euphoria, there was some collateral damage. He shared, "There was a spectator trying to get our attention and Josh Key and I were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're humans, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The result booked a upcoming match at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a team Galbraith ran close at the same stage of the FA Cup with the London side in February. Galbraith had an excellent perspective when Orient took the lead in remarkable manner, with a teammate's volley from about long distance going in via the bar and the Stefan Ortega. It seems unfair that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for taking the effort on from that far out," commented Galbraith, who played in the middle before moving to right defensive wing after they changed tactics. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the winger was among the Manchester squad who paid tribute to the way his former team played positively.

City's Quality

"Physically they are very good but even the fundamentals and basic skills, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they always find their target and they know how to control and slow down a game. You can feel you're doing well and then suddenly they will just thread a ball past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be alert throughout of the game. It takes a strong mentality and concentration just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

The club sought to acquire Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to secure him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a popular figure across a couple of years at his former club and has swiftly done the same in Wales. At his previous team he linked up again with his former manager, who earlier gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in senior football on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a loan at League Two Salford City, before he departed Old Trafford.

Growth Journey

"I was likely a somewhat inexperienced going into senior level. I think a lot of players would say under-23s football is entirely separate. Sometimes it seems possession is exchanged without serious challenge. There are limited physical contests. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

His progress reflects that growth for club and country, performing well for the Green and White Army, who could still reach the international competition next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the last several matches, including two matches games against Germany. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, paid him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he manipulates the ball and his knack for a decisive through ball.

Humble Beginnings

This represents a remarkable path for the youngster from the Queens Park estate in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who was raised observing his parent, his father, also a central player, play for his father's team.

Old Trafford Memory

Galbraith's only game for United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a Europa League trip to the Kazakh capital, where they played on an synthetic surface and the venue ceiling was closed owing to the weather of bitter cold. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he says, smiling. "The preceding week, several youth players and I trained together, so that aided our adjustment. Just to travel with the first team and earn some playing time at the end was unbelievable."

Leaving United

What was the challenge was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged a teenager? "This turned out quite easy, because I got to the stage where I knew I wouldn't break through at the top level. I'm extremely thankful for the years at the club but it became apparent where I believed I had to take a different path, move to a lower level and play men's football. Now I'm steadily progressing again."

New Environment

It is the early part of the afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has an appointment at late afternoon: a driving theory test, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to the local area, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's dubbed fun bus, a minibus driven by club employees, Pete and Howard, which transports players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with a teammate, another squad member, Malick Yalcouyé – Melker Widell used to be in it but has started driving. It's enjoyable to interact with the teammates but I'm aiming to be the subsequent individual out of the minibus and on the road. The Portuguese player enjoys practical jokes; he's always up to all sorts."

Public Engagement

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside fans on public transport after starting his journey at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
